Beach Art & Bubble Bonanza

Ephemeral Art Sand Mandalas: A guided activity where children use shells, pebbles, seaweed, and driftwood to create intricate circular mandalas in the sand. Foster an understanding of patterns, symmetry, and impermanence as the tide washes them away.
Bubble Bonanza: Enjoy giant bubble wands and toddler-friendly bubble machines for sensory play!
Play at Maruta Gardner Playground (The playground with a huge pink slide)

Beach Explorers Day
DATE: SATURDAY 5/3 10:00AM-NOON
Location: La Jolla Shores
Sandcastle Builders' Bash: Guided & free-form sandcastle building with provided shovels, buckets and molds (but feel free to bring your own too!)
Ocean Animal Dig & Discovery: Dig & discover small sea creature figurines in the sand and enjoy a mini-marine biology lesson about local sea creatures & shells!
Sensory Sand Play Zone: Toddlers dig in provided bins with wet and dry sand, shells, and small beach toys for sensory exploration. Natural elements such as seaweed, pebbles, and drift wood may be added to explore different textures.

Little Paleontologists -A Dino Adventure

2221 Morley Field Dr., Balboa ParkBalboa Park @ the Nature Exploration Area (located in the Morley Field area, south of the Balboa Park Tennis Club and near the Morley Field Dog Park)
Fossil Discovery: Kids dig for “fossils” (buried dinosaur skeleton toys), and learn about different prehistoric creatures.
Dino Tracks Hunt: Follow the “dinosaur tracks” to different stations and learn about what local dinosaurs used to live here!
Dino-Egg Sensory Bins: Toddlers dig for their own fossils in provided sensory bins with sand, “dino eggs”, shells, rocks, and other materials for sensory exploration.

Amphitheater Storytime: Join us for storytime in the built-in amphitheater featuring nature-themed books!
Nature Play Area: Foster creative and physical activity in the park's nature play area, which includes hills, trees, boulders, rope bridges, and slides.
Obstacle Course: Practice balance and coorindation with a simple obstacle course incorporating the suspension bridge, and log benches!

Storytime, Butterfly Exploration & Craft

Butterfly Canyon Tour: Guided walk through the park's Butterfly Canyon to observe local butterflies and discuss their life cycles.
Craft Station: Create butterfly crafts using natural materials collected from the park.

Rainy Day Puddle Party & Water Cycle Investigation

Location: Marian Bear Park AFTER rain
“Where Does the Water Go?” Trail Investigation: Kids investigate how water moves by looking at low areas where water collects, dry soil vs. damp soil (absorption & runoff), leaves or rocks with morning dew (condensation). Mini-lesson in the water cycle & water conservation.
Puddle Party: Puddle jumping & bubble station where kids & toddlers can help “create” the water cycle!
Watercolor Art Station: Create watercolor paintings using collected rainwater and nontoxic watercolor paint.
